Small Business Survival Guide

Small and Medium Business CEO

Finally, you’re your own boss. You make the decisions. Your business is on it’s way to becoming successful. Entering a market place can be nerve racking when you look at all your competition. That’s a good thing - it means you’re paying attention.

There are several things to consider keeping your business alive.  Below are a few things to help you get through those first steps.

  • Know thy enemy. That might sound a little extreme but it’s important to keep a consistent tab on what your competitors are doing. This includes product updates, promotional campaigns, and style of creative that they are using. If you have similar consumers it’s also important to pay attention to the effectiveness of their efforts. This doesn’t include corporate espionage, but paying attention to their website or if they have coupons would help you know what they are up to. If you see an up-tick in their activity, it’s a good bet that they are effective. One-upping in the style of your brand should be a reaction to get the attention from your consumers.
  • Get the jump-start every time. While you’re doing your research on the competitive environment, try to think of ways you can beat them at the game. Come up with marketing campaigns and

  • Evaluate your customer service regularly. Your customer service is the forefront of your business. It’s always a good idea to evaluate the customer service skills of your staff. Make sure the message is consistent to your brand and to the training they received. Corporate companies spend big dollars to send some of their employees to annual re-training events to assure them that the brand message is consistent.
  • Be aware of trends in your industry. Whether they are sales trends, consumer trends, or trends in style or technology, know about what is happening in your field. Having this information is very valuable because it gives you the ability to transition with the trends and gain attention of new buyers and early adapters. Whatever industry you are in, be aware of the changes and use it to help develop your business or product line.
  • Keep a sharp image. Whether it’s business cards, points rewards programs, key tags, or gift cards, it’s all about presentation. Plastic Printers produces a wide variety of products to give your business a professional appearance so that your customers remember you before your competitors. Image is everything.
